Top Ten Tuesday: #OTSPSecretSister Bookish Gift Ideas

Top Ten Tuesday

Late last night I was looking through past TTT topics and scrambling for a good one to post about, when the best idea came to me. Why not share a list of bookish gift ideas for everyone participating in the On the Same Page Secret Sister Project?! If you’re confused, you can read more about the project here to find out how you can get involved. Basically we’re paired with someone in secret for 6 months and we shower them with love, encouragement, and (depending on our tier) a lovely thoughtful package each month. This is my third round participating, and it’s so so fun.  I love being connected with a great group of bookish people who are always there to encourage and support each other.

I’ve compiled a list of book-related gifts to help spark some ideas for potential goodies for your secret sis or any bookish person in your life! Let’s get started.

I suggest clicking through to each seller’s page to see what other bookish and fandom options they have available.

Shout out to my Secret Sister

This post is a personal shout out and thank you thank you thank you to my Secret Sister (from the OTSP Secret Sister Project) for their continual amazing, thoughtful gifts each month. This has been my first time participating, and I’m having so much fun with it, thanks largely in part to my Secret Sister!  Get ready for lots and lots of exclamation points.

I received my November package from my Secret Sister today, and this is what they sent (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!):

What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

IT’S SIGNED AND PERSONALIZED!! How awesome is that?! I think I only have one other personalized book, and it came from a Goodreads giveaway, so this is super special to me.  Thank you so much to my Secret Sister for taking the time to do that.  I read one of her other books, My Life Next Door, last fall and really enjoyed it, so I’m sure I’ll like this one too!

A Thousand Cuts by Simon Lelic

I’ve said this before, but books about school shootings are fascinating to me.  I think because I’m a teacher, the subject just hits really close to home and it’s always in the back of my mind that something like this could happen in my workplace.  Reading about how others have dealt with it (fictional or otherwise) has always been very interesting to me.  PLUS, the blurb on the back says that it deals with bullying and sexism, which means I’m immediately adding it to my TBR for next week’s Anti Bullying Readathon. Perfect timing!!!

Some of the other goodies:

I literally screamed when I opened the box and saw these on top.  I’m obsessed with all things Marvel, and these are adorable!! I just rewatched the Captain America movies last weekend too, so the characters have been fresh on my mind lately.  I snapped a picture right away and sent it to one of my friends and she freaked out too. I cannot wait to use these!

It’s crazy that you got this for me, because I really like this quote, and I love that it’s rainbow colors! My mom has always loved super bright colorful things, so anything colorful reminds me of her. She’ll probably try to steal it when my parents visit over the Thanksgiving holiday. I’ll have to keep my eye on it and make sure it doesn’t disappear!

I love this more than anything! I was just complaining last week that it’s almost impossible to find cute bookish images that feature girls with short hair.  And she has glasses! And tea! And a book stack! Actually me in book form. Love love love this.

My Secret Sister also sent me some yummy candy (I’ve already eaten half the Sweetarts OOPS) and a nice card. Thank you so much Secret Sister for continually brightening up my months and shocking me with how well you know me! I’m so grateful to have you in my life!

October 2015: Wrap Up

October Wrap Up

I can’t believe October is over already! And it has been over for almost a week because I’m so late getting this blog post up.

I read…not a lot in October, only 6 books.  I was out of town or hosting guests for 3 of the 5 weekends, and to be honest I just didn’t prioritize reading as much as I typically do, even without those distractions.  I’m still ahead on my Goodreads Challenge, so I’m not too upset about my slow month.

I love music even more than I love reading. No wrap up is complete without a playlist of my favorite songs from the month! I’d love to know what you’ve been listening to lately.

I’m loving this season of How to Get Away With Murder so far. I like to wait until 3-4 episodes have aired and then marathon them all at once.  This season of The Walking Dead has been so slow, I’m really not enjoying it much :/
I started watching Arrow on Netflix last month after I saw Stephen Amell at Chicago Comic Con. I just started Season 2. I even got my mom into the show when she visited earlier in the month!  I have a love/hate relationship with The Voice, depending on who is judging each season. I love Gwen and Pharrell, so I’ve been watching this season. I really like Jordan, Barrett, Siahna, and Braiden.

How was your October? What was your favorite book you read during the month?

Hooray, I’m back!

Sorry for my long hiatus this summer.  I didn’t have internet access for most of my summer break, and I’ve been really busy since I got back to work.  But, I think I’m back for good now! I’m on vacation in Chicago this week, but I do have a little bit of down time to get a couple posts up.

Hopefully you all had a great reading summer.  I’m killing my Goodreads Challenge this year so far.

Here’s what I read this summer:
