After a very public breakup with a media-hungry politician, fitness trainer Tori Alvarez escapes to Aruba for rest, relaxation, and copious amounts of sex on the beach—the cocktail, that is. She vows to keep her vacation a man-free zone but when a cute guy is seated next to her on the plane, Tori can’t resist a little harmless flirting.

Hollywood heartthrob Carter Stone underwent a dramatic physical transformation for his latest role and it’s clear his stunning seat mate doesn’t recognize the man beneath the shaggy beard and extra lean frame. Now Carter needs help rebuilding his buff physique and Tori is perfect for the job. It doesn’t hurt that she makes his pulse pound in more ways than one.

Sparks are flying, until a pesky paparazzo reveals Carter’s identity. Tori is hurt and pissed. She wants nothing to do with another man in the limelight, but she’s still got to whip him into shape. Can Carter convince Tori he’s worth the threat to her privacy that comes with dating a famous actor, or will Tori chisel him down to nothing before he even gets the chance?

Grab the popcorn…

It’s sad how rarely we get to see POC depicted on book covers. I love that this book has that and is written by a black author. I really enjoy famous/not-famous pairings, and the fact that the MC doesn’t even recognize the love interest at first has me even more interested to read this one.  Plus we get to see a woman training a man for once! I just requested AoI on Edelweiss so fingers crossed!

Waiting on Wednesday: Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights anticipated upcoming releases.

This week… Sleeping Giants.

27396059Title: Sleeping Giants
Series: Themis Files #1
Author: Sylvain Neuvel
Publisher: Del Rey
Publication date: April 26, 2016
Genres: Adult, Science Fiction, Fantasy

17 years ago: A girl in South Dakota falls through the earth, then wakes up dozens of feet below ground on the palm of what seems to be a giant metal hand. Today: She is a top-level physicist leading a team of people to understand exactly what that hand is, where it came from, and what it portends for humanity. A swift and spellbinding tale told almost exclusively through transcriptions of interviews conducted by a mysterious and unnamed character, this is a unique debut that describes a hunt for truth, power, and giant body parts.

Goodreads says this book is World War Z meets The Martian, and that’s really all I need to know. The format also reminds me of Illuminae so that has be intrigued as well.

Waiting on Wednesday: Consider by Kristy Acevedo

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights anticipated upcoming releases.

This week… Consider.

27396059Title: Consider
Series: Holo #1
Author: Kristy Acevedo
Publisher: Jolly Fish Press
Publication date: April 19, 2016
Genres: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Dystopian, Apocalyptic

As if Alexandra Lucas’ anxiety disorder isn’t enough, mysterious holograms suddenly appear from the sky, heralding the end of the world. They bring an ultimatum: heed the warning and step through a portal-like vertex to safety, or stay and be destroyed by a comet they say is on a collision course with earth. How’s that for senior year stress?

The holograms, claiming to be humans from the future, bring the promise of safety. But without the ability to verify their story, Alex is forced to consider what is best for her friends, her family, and herself.

To stay or to go. A decision must be made.

With the deadline of the holograms’ prophecy fast approaching, Alex feels as though she is living on a ticking time bomb, until she discovers it is much, much worse.

I hadn’t heard anything about this book until recently, when I noticed it while browsing through Goodreads giveaways. Books that address anxiety always catch my attention, and I don’t think I’ve read about it in a science fiction book yet. I want to read more science fiction this year.  It’s one of my favorite genres and last year I felt like I pushed aside a lot of interesting sci-fi books to read overhyped fantasy. I don’t want to do that again this year. I’m trying to only read books that I really want to, and not pick up something just because everything is talking about it!

Waiting on Wednesday: Love Song

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights anticipated upcoming releases.  This week I’m talking about Love Song.

27396059Title: Love Song
Author: Sophia Bennett
Publisher: Chicken House Books
Publication date: April 7, 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary

A million girls would kill for the chance to meet The Point, but Nina’s not one of them.

She’s the new assistant to the lead singer’s diva fiancée, and she knows it’s going to suck. She quickly learns that being with the hottest band on the planet isn’t as easy as it looks: behind the scenes, the boys are on the verge of splitting up. Tasked with keeping an eye on four gorgeous but spoiled rock stars, Nina’s determined to stick it out – and not fall for any of them …

I’m an easy sell for any book relating to music, especially when they involve the music scene and behind the scenes of band life.  This one looks right up my alley.
