Ambitious February TBR

I’ve been collecting books for Black History Month for a while now. At last count, 13 of the 20 books on my TBR are written by black authors and/or have black main characters.  The rest are books I had already started reading in January, ARCs, library books I need to get to, and my book club’s pick for the month.

I only have access to about 6 of these on audio, and considering almost everything I read in January was via audiobook, I know this big TBR of physical books is going to be really tough for me. Fingers crossed that I get through at least 75% of these.

#ReadThemAllThon TBR

readthemallthon

I’ve never been so excited to participate in a readathon before! This one is going to be so much fun. #ReadThemAllThon is a three week readathon going from Sunday August 14 to Sunday August 4, centered around Pokemon. Check out all the details about the readathon and find out how to sign up at Read At Midnight. There eight badges, or challenges, to complete. We also pick a Pokemon, and for every book we read, badge we complete, review posted, etc., our Pokemon’s CP increases. The person with the Pokemon that has the highest CP at the end of the readathon will win a prize!

This is a tentative TBR. All of the books I chose are over 400 pages because I wanted to gain as much CP is possible. As the readathon goes on, if I’m struggle to get through so many chunky books I may switch things up. I also placed a big Amazon book order a couple days ago, so there’s a chance that I’ll change my TBR to include a couple of those. I’ll update this post if that happens.

Bout of Books 15 TBR

Readathon

Yesterday I posted about Bout of Books 15 and my goals for the readathon.  The readathon starts tomorrow the 4th, and I’ve set aside a stack of books to choose from throughout the week.  Because I’m a big mood reader, when I do readathons I typically pick out more books than I plan to actually read so that I’m not stuck with a specific set of books.  I’ve found that this really helps keep me out of reading slumps, and it gives me some extra books in case I surpass my reading goals.

Here are the books I picked out for the week:

BoB TBR

  1. The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
  2. One + One = Blue by M.J. Auch
  3. Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler
  4. Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan
  5. Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
  6. Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern

My goal is to read four of these books.  The monthly #AYEARATHON readathon is also this week, and the theme for January is benchwarmers. Benchwarmers are books that have been sitting on your shelves for awhile.  Four of the six books I chose have been on my TBR for at least 6 months, and the other two books (Just Visiting & Tell the Wind and Fire) are from my most recent book haul.

Are you participating in one of the many readathons this week? What books are on your TBR?

TAG: The TBR Book Tag

tbr tag

This tag originally came from Rachel at A Perfection Called Books and Dana at Dana Square over a year ago but I’ve seen it floating around again lately and it looked like a fun one.

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

Goodreads! I have two exclusive shelves “tbr wishlist” and “tbr owned” and that’s where I add all of my tbr books.  The “to read” shelf is mostly graphic novels (which I never purchase) to keep them separate from my wishlist books.

Here’s how I keep my shelves organized:

Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?

I don’t have an ereader (I read ebooks on my phone), so I usually only buy print books unless I’m reading something from NetGalley or I bought an ebook at a great price.  I have been considering purchasing an ereader more and more lately. If you have one, let me know what kind and if you like it! I’ve realized that I really dislike the e-ink readers, which is annoying since they’re so much cheaper :/   I wish I hadn’t given my old iPad to my mom because I LOVE that it scrolls in iBooks, and no other ereader has that capability as far as I know.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I have a smallish bookcase next to my bed that doubles as a nightstand and I cycle out the books on it every month or two based on what I’m in the mood for.  I am a huge mood reader! I also keep a stack of books on top of that bookcase that is my more immediate TBR.   I am always reading way too many books at once, so when I get tired of something, I just pick up another book on my stack.

Here’s what is on my nightstand at the moment. The left stack is mostly books from my Secret Sister that I want to read ASAP, and the right stack is my TBR for the Anti Bullying Readathon next week.

A Book In Your TBR Strictly Because Of Its Beautiful Cover

Trial by Fire and Firewalker by Josephine Angelini

I had taken these off my TBR after seeing all the lackluster reviews, but as soon as I saw these beautiful UK covers I had to have them. I ordered them both and put the series back on my TBR.

A Book On Your TBR That You Never Plan on Reading

6320534

Under the Dome by Stephen King

I received this in a trade last spring, and I had been planning to read it at the time. Since then, a friend has told me some really gory details about it, and since I’m not typically into horror, I’m not going to read it now.

My Secret Sister sent me this one in September and said they really enjoyed it.  I’ve been wanting to read it ever since then. I really want to catch up this month on all the great books they have sent me!

WAY TOO MANY… 527

These questions were a lot of fun. I’d love to see your answers if you do the tag!

September TBR

I don’t always make a monthly TBR because I’m a huge mood reader and TBR piles can put me into a reading slump if I don’t feel like reading anything on my pile. Instead, I tend to rearrange the small bookshelf by my bed every couple months to cycle in titles I think I’ll want to read soon, and move the ones I probably won’t.

With that said, I’ve been in a huge reading slump for the past month and I need to change something. I only read six books in August. Three of those were graphic novels and one was an audiobook, so really just two physical novels. For someone who averages 12 books a month, this slump has been really frustrating for me.  My hope is that by making a TBR post, I’ll put a little bit of pressure on myself to get through these books!

This is my (hopefully not tentative) TBR pile for September.  I’m making the list fairly short to leave room for some mood reading throughout the month, although with one of the books being over 600 pages, I may not have time for much else.

Crush Your TBR

Crush Your TBR is this coming weekend, Friday through Sunday, and I’m planning to participate to knock out a couple more books from my May TBR

These are the two books I’m planning to read. I might throw a reread of A Court of Thorns and Roses in there too, but we’ll see. I’m really behind in #yearofcosmere, and even though I’m really enjoying the Mistborn trilogy so far, for some reason I keep putting the second book down to read other titles. I think the size is intimidating me. I’m hoping to devote a good chunk of the weekend to The Well of Ascension, and Arranged thrown in there whenever I need a quick contemporary break. I’m reading a couple other books right now (Shadow & Bone and Caged in Winter), but I’m planning to have those both complete before Friday (fingers crossed!).

Are you participating? What are you planning to read?

Stay tuned for a giveaway later this week!
