SST: Brooding YA Hero

Hooray! Doesn’t this book sound like so much fun? I’m excited to interview the author today as part of the Sunday Street Team.

Brooding YA Hero
by Mackenzi Lee
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Genre: Young Adult, Humor, Contemporary
Release date: October 3, 2017

Ever wished you could receive a little guidance from your favorite book boyfriend?
Or maybe you’re just really confused about what “opal-tinted, luminous cerulean orbs” actually are?

Well, popular Twitter personality @broodingYAhero is here to help as he tackles the final frontier in his media dominance: writing a book. Join Broody McHottiepants as he attempts to pen Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me, a “self-help” guide (with activities–you always need activities) that lovingly pokes fun at the YA tropes that we roll our eyes at, but secretly love.

As his nefarious ex, Blondie DeMeani, attempts to thwart him at every turn, Broody overcomes to detail, among other topics, how to choose your genre,  his secret formula for guaranteed love triangle success, and how to make sure you secure that sequel, all while keeping his hair perfectly coiffed.

Author Interview

  1. Describe your book in 5 words

Brooding hero attempts to write book

  1. When did you know you wanted to become a writer

For almost as long as I could remember! I was writing stories as soon as I learned to hold a crayon!

  1. What was your time frame for writing this book?

Very fast! My publisher bought it in November… and it went to the printers in the spring! Normally books take much longer to publish than that.

  1. What is your writing process like?

I wake up at about 5am, make coffee, crank up some music, and stare at the page until the magic happens. Depending on the day, I might write for an hour, or just 20 minutes.

  1. What are you currently reading?

Goldenhand by Garth Nix… which is the newest book in my favorite childhood series!

  1. If you weren’t a writer, what do you think you’d be doing now

Well, in addition to being a writer, I have a day job I love, I’m in grad school, and I volunteer… so if I’m not writing, I’m probably sleeping 🙂

Thank you for your interview!
